Sony’s Qriocity video streaming service is going mobile. The on-demand pay-per-view offering is making the jump from the living room to your fingertips. Streaming service will be landing on select smartphones from the company’s range as of August 1st, with a choice of content from NBC, Sony Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, Warner Bros. and more. Initially it will only be available to Mini and Mini Pro owners, the Qriocity video app will allow for both rentals and purchases of titles.
After the two compact Android devices, the service will be made available to Xperia arc, Xperia neo, Xperia PLAY, Xperia pro, and Xperia acro through a software upgrade later this year. Nine countries will support the service, at least initially – the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Australia, Japan, Canada and the United States – though the actual content on offer will vary depending on location.
The video service will automatically appear on Xperia smartphones which have been upgraded with this software and users will also be able to download the video service application from Android Market™.
