Microsoft is all set to release ambitious new Windows 8 operating system. It sounds just a successor of Windows 7 but packs some key features which can regain the ground for Microsoft that it has lost to Apple since last year.
Microsoft’s prime concern is not MacBook or Mac OS X Lion but Apple iPad. Well, it makes sense, as the device has sold more than 25 million units in less than a year and a half. There were many competitors in the market to challenge iPad but none of them successfully beat iPad yet. HP’s TouchPad and BlackBerry’s Playbook didn’t work at all. A lot of Android tablets threaten the dominance of iPad but no once succeeded. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 came close to it but thwarted by Apple’s claims of patent infringements.
Microsoft is expected to unveil the first Windows 8 tablet during Tuesday’s keynote. Sources tell us that the device will be manufactured by Samsung but has been designed carefully by Microsoft.
Microsoft stayed out of tablet wars for long time as they were working on Window 8 which is designed in such a way that it would work on smartphones, tablets and desktops also. This could be a turning point for Microsoft and definitely posed an opportunity to get back their lost empire.
Are you wondering whats so special about running same OS on smartphones, tablets and desktops? Well, major benefit is, applications created for Windows 8 can run on wherever you install it. I mean same app can run on desktop, tablet and smartphone. No need to keep optimizing apps for each device separately. Now, Windows 7 already have millions of applications created by developers worldwide and they can quickly optimize those to run on Windows 8 as well. These optimized apps would automatically work across other Win 8 devices.
This way Microsoft stands best chance to compete with Apple. Lets wait and see if Window 8 can beat iOS and Android.
