After months of leaks and speculation, Apple‘s new CEO, Tim Cook, will hold a big media event Oct. 4 to announce the iPhone 5, All Things Digital is reporting today.
If true, the launch date of the next generation iPhone is consistent with the recent wave of rumors claiming it will be released in early October.
AllThingsD’s Sources close to the situation say Cook will be the main presenter at the event, with execs Phil Schiller, Scott Forstall and Eddy Cue playing supporting roles. It is not known whether Steve Jobs, who resigned from the role of Apple CEO in August, will be present at the event.
This will also be the first time that Tim Cook will be announcing a brand-spankin’ new iPhone. In previous years, Steve Jobs was the man for the job and his charisma pretty much had you sold on the iPhone prior to announcing its new features. It’d be interesting to see how Cook, who undoubtedly has a different style, will succeed the very important part of Apple product announcements.
The site’s sources went on to say that the next-gen iPhone will be available for purchase “within a few weeks” of the announcement, though All Things Digital acknowledges that the exact date of its unveiling is still subject to change.
Stay tuned as always, we’ll be sure to keep you update as soon as we hear more.
