Verizon Wireless has just announced in a press release that the Motorola Xoom’s 4G LTE upgrade process can finally begin Thursday the 29th (today).
Users will have to visit the Verizon website for the complete instructions on how to get the 4G LTE update, but it basically involves shipping off your tablet in a protective box, and waiting for about six business days to get it back. The good news is that the entire upgrade process is free of charge. You just need to sign up for the upgrade at Verizon Wireless. From there, you will receive an email with further instructions and shipping information.
Before you send the Xoom back to be upgraded, you should backup your device using the following instructions (PDF) and wipe your device so that no one has access to your documents, photos and email accounts.
Verizon also announced that Xoom tablets with 4G LTE built in will be available starting October 13th for $499.99 on a new two year contract. Broadband data plans will begin at $30/month for 2GB of data.
