Need to book a hotel room in a pricey city tonight and still want a deal? As of yesterday, Priceline.com is ready to help. Priceline has studied its mobile numbers and come up with a facility to book hotels on the same-night of the stay. Last-minute bookers will find the Tonight-Only Deals featured on Priceline’s 2-year-old Hotel Negotiator app for iPhones. The app doesn’t yet exist for Android phones.
Priceline says it developed the app on the back of research showing that 70% of its mobile customers are booking hotels on the same day.
Travelers who download the free app with the new Tonight-Only Deals service will have access to an exclusive inventory of 3-star and 4-star hotel room in 34 cities that can be booked for check-in that same night, with a maximum 4-night stay, at discounts of up to 35% off published prices found elsewhere. Tonight-Only Deals will be posted on the service at 11:00 a.m. local time. Room reservations can be instantly booked up until 11:00 p.m. local time, or until they sell out.
The Tonight-Only Deals service is the latest among priceline.com’s mobile offerings. Priceline also has a popular Hotel & Rental Car Negotiator app for the iPhone and iPod Touch, available for free at the iTunesApp Store, and a Hotel Negotiator app for Android, available for free at the Android Marketplace.
Priceline.com and its sister hotel reservation service, Booking.com, are the only two major online travel agencies to offer pannable real-time hotel mapping and to allow hotel bookings to be made within the iPad app. “Our new iPad app is designed to be an extremely convenient, simple and fast hotel searching and booking tool for a traveler on the go who wants to stay in a particular part of town,” said John Caine, priceline.com’s Senior Vice President, Marketing.
