Google Android is still the most promising mobile OS platform around. As Google announced yesterday, there have been 190M Android devices manufactured to date. Sony Ericsson is one of the companies building Android devices.
Sony Ericsson has announced its financial results for the third quarter of 2011. The Swedish-Japanese company sold 9.5 million handsets during the quarter, at an average selling price of €166.
Sony Ericsson’s third quarter report says a 33 per cent spike in sales as well as announcing that 22 million Xperia Android phones have been sold to date. The majority of those handsets (about 80%) were Android smartphones, which is why Sony Ericsson will be shifting its entire product portfolio to smartphones during 2012, the company said. There have been rumors about Sony buying Ericsson out soon.
Interestingly, Bert Nordberg Sony Ericsson President and CEO announced that the company will “continue to invest in the smartphone market, shifting the entire portfolio to smartphones during 2012,” which gives us some idea of what to expect.
