Attention is squarely focused on Ice Cream Sandwich these days, but owners of Samsung’s Epic 4G on Sprint will be pleased to know that their devices are getting over-the-air (OTA) updates to Gingerbread, so if you hold an Epic 4G in your hands but have yet to see the update arrive, patience is the keyword here.
The rollout has started yesterday. The update comes over-the-air, and as such your phone should notify you when it becomes available. The rollout may be staggered, so it may take a few days for the update to reach your particular device. “The software version should show as S:D700.0.5S.EI22, and it’ll be pushed out in stages throughout the next ten days. And there you have it, Gingerbread, general improvements, and other stuff. Head into Settings > About Phone > System Updates > Update Android to see if it’s available on your device. Here you can get Sprint’s Samsung Epic 4G Gingerbread Update.
If you are itching to get Gingerbread on your Epic, but the update isn’t available to your device just yet, you can grab it manually like so:
- Download the update from Google.
- Rename the file to update.zip. (Make sure you don’t do update.zip.zip if you’re on Windows.)
- Move the update.zip file to your SD card.
- Turn off your phone.
- Hold the Volume Down and Camera buttons, and then press the power button.
- The update should automatically launch itself. Sit back and relax.
- Reboot the phone.
After the update is performed, your Epic 4G should run software version EI22.
Feel free to add any comments regarding the improvements offered by the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade for Samsung Epic 4G.
