Lenovo has confirmed speculation that it plans to launch its first Windows Phone device during the second half of 2012.
During an interview with iMobile, Lenovo’s LePhone Product Manager Yue Chen, shortly after the launched of Android-based LePhone S2, confirmed that last month some images emerged from China of an unknown handset shown above, running Windows Phone 7 are indeed of a real device, which will be launching later in 2012. However, Chen did not reveal any information on the name, specifications, rough date or price of the Windows Phone device but we might see a new OEM being added to the official Microsoft Windows Phone 7 OS list.
It seems that Lenovo is expanding its market strategy beyond manufacturing laptops and desktops. It has released a handful of tablets including the IdeaPad Tablet K1 and ThinkPad Tablet. The smartphone industry may very well be its next venture.
