Facebook has announced the latest update to their Android app, one that sees a drastic shift in layout and boosted performance. The new version is claimed to be faster especially when it comes to viewing and sharing photographs, and it features a redesigned UI that’s much closer to the iOS/mobile page version of the social network. Moving around the UI is reminiscent of the iOS version, particularly version 4.0, which is available for the iPad, the iPhone, and the iPod touch.
The biggest improvement over the previous version of the Facebook app is its main navigation. Now, there are links to Friends Requests, Messages, and Notifications right at the top of your screen. This means you can respond to Friends without leaving the page you’re on. A left-hand menu has also been added to give you quick access to your News Feed, Groups, games, apps, and more, making the features you use available right at your fingertips.
The Facebook for Android app update already live on the Android Market.
According to Facebook’s Blog, if you’re an Android user and already have Facebook installed, you should be offered to update automatically. If however, you’re new to Facebook Android app, or can’t wait for the automatic update, you can head over to the Android Market where it’s available to download now.
