According to Google’s chairman Eric Schmidt, Google is planning to launch a tablet of the highest quality in the next six months; the thoughts were shared with Italian newspaper Corriere della Sea by Mr. Schmidt.
Not many actual hardware or software details were provided of course regarding Tab Nexus or Google Nexus Tablet (First of all, no official name has been ported), but the Eric did say enough to suggest that the ultimate goal is to give Apple‘s iPad a hard time, at the very least.
Exact details of the upcoming tablet were also not revealed, and it’s unclear whether the slate will be specifically branded with Google’s Nexus nomenclature or be another manufacturer’s model. The Google Nexus moniker will be used as the brand, unless the company chooses a different company to build it (as was the case with Motorola’s XOOM). But it seems that its launch is scheduled before the summer, and exactly six months.
If one were to speculate on the hardware, the Tegra 3 would be out first guess as a physical platform. We are still not confident that Nexus Tab will be powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or with the next version of Android (Android Jelly Bean), but it’s always worthwhile to wait for official announcement.
