According to the news and rumor site DigiTimes, Top personal computer vendors Acer and Lenovo are each working on Windows 8 tablets. The both computer industry would probably bring the Intel’s Clover Trail platform based Windows 8 tablets in Q3 2012 (in the later half of this year), if their upstream Supply Chain sources are to be believed. Of course, the storyline here isn’t as far-fetched as some; other companies itself is rumored to launch a Win 8-based slate as early as 2012. Coming to the Acer and Lenovo offering, both the companies will be relying on Intel Clover Trail platform for their upcoming Wintel venture, report claims.
It should be noted that Clover Trail is not the only push Intel will make on the mobile industry.
Clover Trail is follow-on to Medfield–due in the second quarter–which is aimed primarily at smartphones. While the Medfield chip will undoubtedly be used in some tablets, it is a single-core design, while Clover Trail will also be offered in dual-core versions, making it more attractive for tablet makers, according to sources.
