According to consulting firm iGR, the increasing popularity of the Google Android smartphone operating system has finally made it the most popular smartphone platform in the US. Research claims 47% of U.S. smartphone users own an Android device, followed by 24% who have an Apple iPhone.

Google = Android

27% of Android users made their decision based on the fact that they believed Google was a “reputable company” (and Android has to be the same).

Samsung Android Smartphones

For those surveyed, Samsung was the preferred brand among consumers, followed right behind by Motorola, HTC and then LG. Major Asian brands ZTE and Huawei rounded out the bottom, but both companies barely have any share of the American market.

iGR Research Analyst Sarah Thoman specifically called out “handset display quality and functionality” as big influences. Anyone who follows Android phones obsessively knows that Samsung usually brings amazing displays to the party along with other great features.
