We knew Sony’s first two Android tablets, the Tablet S and the Tablet P, would be getting an official Ice Cream Sandwich update. But now Sony has officially confirmed that it will be bringing Android 4.0/Ice Cream Sandwich to its tablet portfolio this spring along with its Xperia smartphones lineup.
Unfortunately, a specific date wasn’t provide. The news of the ICS update comes via the guys over at The Verge and tech giant also claims that the folks over at Sony have already gotten ICS on the tablets and are currently testing things behind the scene. Report claims Sony also will adorn the Tablet S and Tablet P with a couple of “unique” extras on top of ICS. The company spokesman also let loose about some exciting new functionality, including Microsoft Office and PlayStation 3 controller compatibility.
Other smartphone manufacturers, including Motorola, Samsung, LG, Huawei and HTC, have either upgraded their devices to ICS or promised an upgrade in the near future.
On a side note, Sony reduced the price of the Tablet S by $100 at the beginning of 2012, just saying.
