Ice Cream Sandwich Ported to Nokia N9

Post Type

Remember when developers tried to run Ice Cream Sandwich on Nokia N900 handset, just to porting the device before Nokia N9? Developers were not successes at the time, but now thanks to Alexey Roslyakov (part of the NITDroid team) from Talk.Maemo.org, and the NITDroid project builds, here we have the first photo of the Nokia N9 (below), running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Nokia N9 Ice Cream Sandwich

Alexey concerned itself with porting Android to the N900 previously and the 3.9-inch MeeGo smartphone N9 presently. The Alexey, however, did tweet the photo with the simple description, “Progress“. The Nokia N9 was the world’s first smartphone to run the MeeGo OS created by collaboration between Nokia and Intel.

However, there is not much info available on the status of the port, but if the overlapping lock screen, home screen and Ice Cream Sandwich widgets are any indication, it’s very slow going indeed. Alexey also noted that the software is running in a dual-boot configuration, presumably keeping the MeeGo OS intact.

We’ll certainly be following the development of this one, so stick around for more information.
