We’re still without an official ICS upgrade start date for the Vivid, but apparently some owners of the device have been able to manually force the update to come to their smartphone. Needless to say this made a few of you pretty happy, as the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the device hasn’t been pushed to all, but if you’re curious enough to grab this, then you can test your luck and see about giving the new software a spin by performing the dialer trick and waiting for that sweet treat to arrive.
The folks over at AndroidCentral report that AT&T customers who own the HTC Vivid can now get the Android 4.0.3 ICS update, if they force the push by dialing *#*#682#*#*. And it will ping the servers hosting the file and initiate a push to the handset. You can also head over to the original thread of the tech blog for more details.
It is also worth mentioning this will update the Smartphone’s HTC Sense UI to version 3.6 rather than 4.0.
If you’ve got a Vivid and try the aforementioned trick to get the Android 4.0 update installed, be sure to mosey on down to the comments to let us know how things work out.
