Sprint has thrown the switch on their LTE landing page, which confirms that, the Galaxy Nexus and LG Viper both smartphones are coming to Sprint. The Android devices also will be joined by yet another high-end device, the HTC One X, if the rumors floating around hold true.
The Sprint Samsung Galaxy Nexus is set to be the first 4G LTE Android smartphone on Sprint and was originally announced by Sprint almost a month ago. The latest rumor, which S4GRU says comes from an inside source at Sprint, is that the carrier has decided to release the device on April 15th. That’s a Sunday, which would normally seem like an unlikely day for a phone’s release, but Sprint has been known to do Sunday releases in the past, and several WiMax device promotions which end on or around April 14th.
It’s also worth noting that rumors are pointing to the Galaxy Nexus launching on Sprint with LTE initially turned off. The devices will have LTE radios, but they’ll boot into 3G when they’re activated. Users will then be able to switch from LTE to 3G and of course to WiFi.
Reportedly, the Sprint’s Galaxy Nexus also made its rounds through the FCC a couple of days ago. Which confirms LTE, and other radios include for Sprint’s 3G, 2G, and voice, as well as NFC and Bluetooth.
Other handset outed by Sprint is LG Viper, which is also supposed to come out on the same April 15th date. This dual-core Android 2.3 smartphone with NFC support was reveled in January.
However, the Galaxy S III rumor train is going at full throttle right now. Sprint customers might be waiting to hear about another device, though, the HTC One X. The same source S4GRU claims that the device is to be released by Sprint on June 10th. To be codenamed as HTC “Jet,” internally on the carrier, the device will be carrying a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, a 4.7-inch Super LCD 1280×720 display, Corning Gorilla Glass 2, NFC, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0. The HTC Jet will be coupled by 1GB of RAM.
Regardless, let’s wait and see how it all turns out, and let’s not forget that salt dosage. Though, we’ll keep our ears to the floor. And when the more details emerge, we’ll be sure to keep you guys updated.
