Toshiba has launched a new tablet that runs the Android operating system and uses a Freescale CPU inside. Called Toshiba LT170, the new tablet is a 7-inch budget tablet that runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread. That bit of information should tell you already that the tablet’s a low-end device, so we shouldn’t expect much, right?
Toshiba has already shown off a range of new tablets, including the super-thin Toshiba Excite X10, a 7 inch Thrive tablet, a 13.1 inch tablet (which is yet to be released) and a range of other devices with unusual screen sizes. But what makes this tablet differ than others is a Freescale processor.
Powered by a 1GHz Freescale i.MX53 ARCM Cortex-A8 CPU, the Toshiba LT170 slate packs a 7-inch (1024 x 600) display, 512MB RAM, 8GB of internal flash memory for file and media storage, MicroSD and MicroUSB ports. The tablet also includes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 for wireless.
The LT170 Tablet is also fitted with a 7 hour lithium battery, together with double cameras, a 0.3 MP on the front and a 2MP on the rear.
Priced for €299, it’s currently only available for preorder from a few Italian resellers, so I’ll give you the current conversion to US dollars: $394.38. And it can be found on sale in Italy at the moment.
