There is no real shortage of rumors when it comes to the considering any Apple’s device to be launched. According to insiders, Apple is reportedly experimenting with a 7.85-inch “iPad mini” in its labs in Cupertino.
The thoughts come straight from tech writer John Gruber, who has a pretty good track record when it comes to Apple rumors; a 7.85 inch iPad mini is real.
It’s not the first time, we’re hearing about this oft-rumored device. Recently rumored and expected to be launched in late 2012, the device never got official. However, Apple could be taking a pre-emptive approach this time around. The 7-inch Kindle Fire is doing rather well and Google is expected to launch a cheap 7-incher of its own. While they hardly pose an immediate threat for Apple’s dominance, it would make sense for Apple to enter the market as well.
This smaller iPad is said to features the same resolution as the iPad 2 with a 1024 x 768 pixel display.
It all depends on the price. With the old iPad 2 starting at $399, Apple would have to offer the 7.85-incher at a much more appealing price, probably closer to $250.
Apparently the device is a prototype, so there are no details on whether we will ever see a smaller iPad go on sale. If it does see a release, the new iPad mini could be launched alongside iPhone 5 as soon as WWDC event 2012 in June, Mr. Gruber suggested.
