Apple Promotes its apps by providing certain apps for free under the label “Free App of the week” and also other apps are being promoted under the label “Editor’s choice”.
On 24th May,2012 itself apple tweeted the announcement of Cut the rope: Experiments is the new free app of the week at the discounted rates.
This is not a very new concept for the apple, earlier too apple has been giving out many of its apps for free. But, this is the first time when this was promoted through social networking sites. Hence it is easier for the scheme to come in the eyeballs of the public.
Apple has also launched the editor’s choice in place of Staff favourites. Apple currently features facebook camera(available on the appstore), Extreme Skater(available on the appstore), Sketchbook Inc(available on the appstore), Air mail(available on the appstore), Deus Ex human revolution and Cobook which are available on the Mac App store
Other than these, Apple also has an appstore for android on Amazon. Here also it features free apps and also the iTunes store also features free Single of the week
Although this promotion strategy is not very innovative, unique or new but it is a successful strategy. In the past there were some strategies like “What’s hot” which have made users aware about the apps available in the market. Also there have been twenty five paid and free games that were required to indulge high number of downloads
The iOS app store has put up the Cut the rope: experiments by Zeptolab for the app of the week and the current editor pick consists of miniclip’s Extreme Skater. The mac app store has been putting up Deus Ex: Human Revolution by Square Enix as the editor’s pick.
