Sony’s next video game console, so to-be-called PlayStation 4, will be featuring support for 4K resolution. While — in the meantime — Sony is readying the troops to deploy a new 80-incher LCD TV set with 4k resolution, folks over at BGR claim that the next iteration of the PlayStation will debut in form of an effort to try and push this new technology.

Playstation LogoThe site also suggests that many manufacturers, including Sony, are betting on 4K as a way to get consumers to upgrade their home entertainment devices. Sony has already been in 4K market by selling its Blu-ray players, so the rumor fits the point that Sony PlayStation 4 will indeed support 4K resolution playback in tow.

Details on Sony’s next console, though, have been sparse. Rumor it has that the upcoming Sony’s gaming console’s codename could be “Orbis,” and that it might use an AMD processor. Stay tuned for additional details, though.
