Breaking: Indians Crave to Name Next Android Version as Kaju Katli

Post Type

Kaju Katli LogoWell it’s no secret that every 6 months Google comes up with a new flavor of Android operating system and names it after a delectable sweet.

It’s also pretty clear Google has only named Android versions based on sweets/desserts popular in the United States to the date. But considering the fact Android OS has grown 500% YoY in India; a group of Indian Android lovers has emerged in form of supporting the campaign for Kaju Katli [popular Indian sweet] as the name of next Android version.

What’s the story behind Kaju Katli?

Reportedly the campaign — supported by Pricebaba.com (popular mobile phone retailer in India) as #KajuKatli for Android — has already got the support of over 2346 people, at the time of writing this article. The support of the members is growing fast too (as in 10 minutes of writing it I saw that the number got 350 extras).

Allow me to make a case for calling Android 4.2 version by an Indian name.

That said; Android version before has been named after a pastry in alphabetical order starting with Cupcake (1.5), Donut (1.6), Éclair (2.1), Froyo (2.2), Gingerbread (2.3), Honeycomb (3.0) Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0), and Jelly Bean (4.1) — and now it is the turn of ‘K.’

Well when we caught up with Annkur P Agarwal, Co Founder at Pricebaba.com to discover the story behind this interesting idea, he said he hardly remembers how the idea clicked but it wasn’t meant to be funny or humorous, just something that India could resonate with.

What about Key Lime Pie?

Android Key Lime Pie might be the [Android 6.0?] logical step after Jelly Bean OS, according to some tech enthusiast out there, but as nothing’s been officially confirmed until, we assume Kaju Katli deserves an attention too.

Conclusion:

The article over the Pricebaba.com website states, “Sign the campaign below and share it with the world. We would send a delicious box of Kaju Katli and your messages to Google CEO, Larry Page and Android Founder, Andy Rubin!”

As of us, we support the #KajuKatli for Android campaign and if you want to support it too, you’re welcomed to  sign the petition here. Meanwhile, stay tuned with us for additional details.
