Toshiba is reportedly preparing a Lytro-like image sensor that will allow users to refocus the objects that have already been shot. Although, unlike the Lytro, Toshiba will debut a (cube-shaped) module that houses an array of 500,000 tiny lenses in front of a 5 x 7mm sensor, and measures about 1cm on each side — that, of course, hints at future-use in Smartphones and tablets. The folks over at Toshiba have also stated that they have found a way to make video recording possible too, with a similar refocusing option.
The sensor will go in mass production by H1 of 2013, and we’re unlikely to have Toshiba’s camera module-equipped devices in our pockets during end of fiscal 2013. Keep it tuned with Techsnapr for additional details.
