It was way back in mid-2012 when we reported that WP 7.8 update for Lumia 900 on AT&T will start rolling out in weeks, but — for better or worse — we didn’t see any sign of the upgrade in months. Now it would appear that AT&T has outed an Email (below) that confirms the Lumia 900 WP 7.8 update as of today, January 30.

However, the Finnish company confirmed a upgrade roll-out for Lumia 900 for first quarter of this year — since its younger brother has already been treated with the update last year. As it turns out, the 900 owners now also have a treat under the hood. That being said; when plugged in, the Zune desktop software brought us the Windows Phone 7.8 software update on our Nokia Lumia 900 handset.
The 100MB update brings following goodies on the device.
- New Start Screen - Similar to WP8, this new start screen allows users to pin more tiles. Meanwhile, the wide vertical black zone on the far right called the “gutter” has been removed.
- New theme colors – Now there are even more options to personalize the device, with a new theme color may be selected from many new colors that have been added to the expanded color pallet.
- Bing “Image of the Day” Lock Screen Option: Now users can switch to regularly changing “Image of the Day” from the Bing search screen to be automatically displayed as their lock screen wallpaper each day.
Alongside improved Lock Screen accidental wipe protection, the update also brings revamped quality and security enhancements, as well as Marketplace and API enhancements.
