Around two years ago, Google announced its one of the biggest acquisition of Motorola Mobile for $12.5 billions. The deal not only got handful of patents for Google but also manufacturing unit of Motorola. Yesterday, Moto X was released and we can see a ‘Google Effect’ in the product.
Moto X do not have extraordinary hardware specs but its features are awesome and I personally like to have it. These new innovative features can make your phone a wonderful tool. Most exciting one is ‘Touch-less control. You can give voice commands to your phone left nearby in home. Just say ‘Google Now’ and it wakes up immediately to serve next command. You might argue that this would drain phone’s battery but this problem has been handled smartly. I’ll come to that later. Voice commands could be Google search for a word, call a friend or schedule a meeting etc. The intelligence goes much further. For example it will warn you to end a meeting because it knows that traffic is so bad, you might not make your next appointment in time.
10MP ClearPixel camera can be turned on by just shaking your wrist twice. The ClearPixel technology promises better low-light shots and blur-free daylight shots.
Screen size is 4.7 inches rather than trending 5 inches. Backside is textured and provides firm grip. Moto X features the new Motorola X8 Mobile Computing System which has total of 8 cores. Two of which contributes to 1.7 GHz Snapdragon CPU. Next four cores are for Adreno 320 GPU. A custom system-on-a-chip (SoC) design that includes a dedicated low-power core, separate from the main CPU, that uses only a tiny bit of power. It is the reason of why ‘always listening’ features don’t drain your battery.
The AMOLED screen allows for only selected pixels to be turned on at a time, that means minimum battery consumption for display.
NFC based authentication saves you trouble of entering password every time you want to unlock the phone. You can take advantage of this at known places like your home or car.
Other cool things are also included like, phone wakes up as soon as you pick it up. It do not show notifications if the phone is upside down. If your calender says you are in a meeting, then all calls are sent to voice mail etc.
Google promises to make your life better and by looking at the Moto X we are not disappointed.
