Android has a massive share of the smartphone market globally. More popular than the Apple iPhone (yes, it’s true!), Android phones are known for their ease of use and affordable prices. But, did you know there are plenty of secrets that your Android phone is hiding?
Before you worry, there’s nothing sinister going on – I promise! What I’m talking about is that there are some little-known features that make your Android device a brilliant one! Here are some of the top things you didn’t know your smartphone could do!
You can change the launcher
Owners of iPhones will be rather envious of the fact that Android users can change the launchers on their devices! It’s no secret that companies like Samsung and HTC favor their launchers over the default Android ones.
If you do a search on Google Play (the Android app store), you will find a plethora of alternatives that you can install on your pride and joy. Now you can impress (read: annoy) your iPhone friends by showing them how brilliant your new app launcher is. Meanwhile, they’re stuck with the default iOS app launcher!
You can control your TV
Another feature of Android devices is their ability to control other types of devices! Let’s say you are promoting a minimalist look at your home, and you don’t want to clutter your living room with lots of remote controls.
If you want to control your TV’s volume or change channels, just use your Android smartphone! Modern Android devices have infrared built into them.
Using apps designed to work with your TV, you are now set free from the confines of your TV remote control! Issa Asad of Florida says that this functionality is also available in Android phones at the cheaper end of the market. That means you don’t have to spend a few hundred bucks on the latest smartphone!
You can stop guessing the name of “that” song you heard on the radio
Doesn’t it annoy you when you hear a classic song on the radio but you can’t remember who sung it or even the name of the song?
Well, now you can find out that information at a moment’s notice! All you need to do is use an app like Shazam. Or, even better, Google’s own solution – “Sound Search.” If your Android smartphone hasn’t got the app installed, you can download it from Google Play for free.
You can connect your Android device to your HDTV
I’m sure you will have a fair few treasured photos and even home movies recorded on your trusty Android smartphone. If you want to show them to other people, you don’t all have to huddle round to look at it on your 4-inch screen!
All you need to do is buy an adapter that connects your smartphone to your TV’s HDMI port. Now you have the power to show those impressive images and videos on the big screen. The adapter only costs a few bucks and is cheaper than the iPhone version…!
