I’ve spoken about technology in business on a couple of previous occasions. We’ve had a look at great tech businesses should use, but what about how technology has affected businesses? We all know tech is brilliant, but what has it done for the business world? I take a look at three areas of business that technology has improved:
One of the biggest ways tech has affected businesses is by making them more productive. With advancements in technology, businesses can do things that they couldn’t do before. It means there is never a moment where someone can’t be doing work.
Most businesses now use cloud services to be more productive. Vault Networks describe the cloud as technology that delivers services to users via the internet. What this means is that people can access the cloud if they have any device with internet on it. So, you could be at home, or on the train, and still get work done by accessing services on the cloud. It means businesses can now get more work done in a single day. It also means that if something slips through the cracks, it can be rectified at home without someone having to go to the office. The cloud is a great tech development that has seriously upped business productivity.
Being connected is a key part of any successful business. Most businesses aim to be connected to their customers and connected within the company too. But, how has technology improved connectivity?
For starters, there are so many ways a business can connect with their customers. Nowadays you can hold meetings on Skype and speak to clients via social media. It’s all done instantly; people are far more connected.
You can apply this to in-house connectivity too. A lot of businesses set up a business social network for employees to connect with each other. Instead of holding meetings, things are discussed via email or chatting on an instant messaging service. It speeds things up but also keeps you more connected with one another.
Perhaps the best thing tech has done for businesses is make them more secure. There are various tech advancements that have made security worries a thing of the past. Actual physical security is improved, as is data and internet security.
Things like fingerprint scanners have made businesses secure their premises better than ever before. Back in the day, a simple padlock stood between a burglar and your office. Now, there are motion sensing cameras, CCTV with night vision sensors – it’s all very high tech. Breaking into someone’s business address will be tougher than some big screen jewelry heists.
As I said, data and internet security is also improved. I spoke about the cloud increasing productivity, well it also makes data more secure. You also have anti-virus software that makes it easy to detect any incoming threats. If someone sends you an email containing a virus, you’re going to know about it before you accidently click it! Everything about a business is more secure thanks to technology.
