Once upon a time there was an old saying about your head being in the clouds. It meant you were disconnected and out of touch. These days being in the cloud is being celebrated as connected. With more and more businesses going that way, it’s starting to look like a crowded space. And with very good reason. I just need to explain the benefits to my Grandmother and the owner of the bacon sandwich stall down on the dockside and we’ll all be there. Here are some ways that having your head in the clouds is changing our world.
Computing is liberating itself from the hardware and related expenses. It is no wonder that the possibilities of the cloud are taking off. The massively improved flexibility means that small business can get out there and slug it out with the big boys and girls. Otherwise know as operational agility, it is easy to upgrade your cloud capacity. It is just as easy to reduce it again. We like flexibility.
I once knew a guy who wrote an entire book and hadn’t managed to save it, somehow it all just disappeared. Never more to worry about the lap top left on the train, or the one I had stolen at a station in Barcelona. Your stuff is now safe. Old backup and recovery solutions need no longer be employed. As a mobile genius in the making, I really value the advantages of knowing I can recover my terrible ebook should I ever decide to write one. On top of which I don’t even have to worry about delivering the mail.
Security was another area where you once had to fork out mega bucks to feel protected. Working in the cloud, we get our security assured without having to worry about updates and extra expense. No need to worry about that lost laptop data. Neither do I have to worry about any updates anymore. The cloud’s servers are simply up there somewhere. I can’t see them and I don’t want to
Pay as you go has go to make sense for the budding entrepreneur or the owner of any small business. There are no surprises and no hidden costs. Just a regular easy payment. And as with any banking done through the cloud, I can know where I am all the time every moment of the day. and night.
I can work wherever I like, though I don’t get as much done in my cafe of choice. It’s my choice and I like that. I can hook up with my co -workers easily and we can all work on the same document. Sending files backwards and forwards was such pain. Liberated as such, I don’t have to worry about where the data centre of my business is. I can work from the top of a mountain if I want to.
Free and Easy
Maybe not free but certainly easy and getting easier. Keeping my head in the clouds is enabling me to keep my feet firmly on the ground. And I am doing what I do best, developing my business and having more brilliant ideas. My grandmother wouldn’t have believed it.
