No one could deny that the tech we are using is changing our lives. Every aspect of our day to day existence is now immersed in it. From the news we hear, to the way we work and from the games we play to the way we interact, tech has its grip on us. Our lives have become dominated by an all consuming thirst for faster, quicker, better and more entertaining. But are we losing sight of something in the process?
It is also true that we are becoming more disparate than ever. We socialise in different ways but we are losing touch with the real world and each other. We are at the same time becoming more depressed, more isolated and more adrift. Diabetes, heart disease and cancers are killing more people than ever before. We need some perspective and some balance in our lives.
Get out more
This is for every desk-bound geek or incessant game player. You need to go outside, more. You are a human being; you need fresh air and sunshine. You need a break. Even sitting down and hunched over your tablet or laptop is slowly doing you damage. It is wrecking your eyesight and even your posture. That means slowly but surely you are stooping forwards and causing yourself damage that could well be long term.
Whatever you are doing, build a break into every hour. Get up walk around, go around the block, do some star jumps! Get on your bike to and from work if you can. Take up new ways of keeping fit and energized. Use your tech to help you stay healthy. Do yoga, pilates, rediscover your body, go swimming, take up surfing. Exercise more and it will pay you dividends in your health but also in your creativity.
Keep in touch
Are you heads down working on a startup or finding a way to make your business shine? Then the chances are that you have let other essential parts of your life go a little. We get so wrapped up in our little bubble that we forget that there are other people out there who are important to us. Don’t let those relationships slide. Keep up with a social life, get involved outside of a world that revolves around study or tech. Reconnect with your family. Before you play your next game, get your Skype credit at SEA Gamer Mall. Someone will be pleased to hear from you! Texting is fine and brilliant for quick communication, but a personal call is a life line to a real person.
Look after your diet
It is easy to succumb to a diet of fast food, pizza and convenience food and energy drinks. These are quick fixes that will give you a buzz but are slowly doing you damage. These things are okay in moderation, but why not take some time and cook yourself a nutritious meal once in awhile? Load up on fresh fruit and veggies and invest in a cold pressed juicer or smoothie maker. If you don’t have time, these are a brilliant way to keep yourself nourished and healthy.
Look after yourself, love your life and enjoy your tech more.
