Facebook has just officially launched its Messenger for Windows. The Facebook Messenger is a standalone app that lets users IM friends via Windows 7. It also lets users persistently chat, receive notifications, and read their news feed from your desktop. The world’s largest online social network Facebook could file papers as early as next week on Wednesday February 1st for its long-awaited Initial Public Offering (IPO), according to WSJ. The company is considering a valuation of $75 billion to $100 billion, and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. will probably play a “major role” in the IPO, according to report. Facebook has announced the latest update to their Android app, one that sees a drastic shift in layout and boosted performance. The new version is claimed to be faster especially when it comes to viewing and sharing photographs, and it features a redesigned UI that’s much closer to the iOS/mobile page version of the social network. New Zealand will be the first country to get Facebook’s brand-spanking new Timeline feature – and the rest of the world will be made to wait. In NZ, the company rolled out the new changes at 14:00 New Zealand time (17:00 PST). If successful there it will release the profile redesign elsewhere. The world’s largest social networking service Facebook is reportedly buying Austin-based Gowalla, a location-based social networking site, according to a source close to Gowalla cited by CNN. Neither Facebook nor Gowalla have confirmed this news directly at this point.
