Twitter unveiled a new-look that it hopes will encourage more people to flock to the site – and make for a simpler, yet richer, experience for the millions already in the nest. Essentially, it’s a complete top-to-bottom revamp, and also includes UI reboots of TweetDeck. The Twitter’s new look will be rolling out to the web interface soon, but anyone with an iPhone or Android device can check out the new Twitter right now. Twitter’s tab menu is a focus of the redesign, and all options there will be rebranded and expanded. Twitter’s navigation has been distilled into four buttons: A Home [...]

Twitter’s has rolled out its photo-sharing and uploading service to all users, according to Twitter Public Relations representative Sean Garrett.   Twitter’s photo-sharing service is powered by Photobucket, allows users to attach images to tweets from the web-based Twitter.com app.     The feature was announced at the very beginning of June, allows users to add images to their tweets. Users will now find a camera icon on the bottom of the “What’s Happening?” box on Twitter.com. Clicking it will let users select a picture to upload, which they can then preview before sending it to the world. Images will appear as shortened [...]

Professional social network Linkedin surpassed Myspace in terms of traffic to become the No. 2 most visited social networking site in the U.S. in June. LinkedIn, which has seen a resurgence of traffic after its IPO in May, reached an all-time high of 33.9 million unique visitors in June compared to Myspace, which saw 33.5 million unique visitors (that’s down from 34.9 million in May). Hopefully Myspace’s new owners can recharge the troubled social network.   Twitter posted record U.S. traffic, with June as the first month the site saw over 30 million unique visitors. Twitter.com had 30.6 million unique visitors in June, compared [...]

It seems Fox news Twitter account hacked around 2 AM Eastern time, and went on to claim President Obama was shot twice at an Iowa restaurant. Tweets also says that Obama passed away soon thereafter, and the shooter’s identity was unknown.   “Hacker” is probably a school kid who hijacked @FoxNewPolitics Twitter account and posted a series of messages declaring U.S. President Barack Obama dead on the evening of the Fourth of July, the national day of the United States.   @FoxNewsPolitics has around 33,000 followers. If you are a Twitter user, you can understand how fast tweets spread by [...]

Since Google+ rolled out to users worldwide, everyone including webmasters are comparing it with Facebook for its social offerings. They even transformed its appearance to look like Facebook. Though Google+ has some things common between them, there are few important things common between Google+ and Twitter. Yes, these are some key features Google is using to compete with Twitter through Google+ and if they succeeded in this attempt, Twitter would become next Myspace.   Before I tell you about those features, you need to understand the basic difference between Twitter and Facebook. Twitter lets you follow anyone anytime and see [...]

Today, I noticed ‘retweet’ button on my website wasn’t working. I tried to get to the bottom of issue and found that Tweetmeme service is down today. Tweetmeme outage is worldwide and all the users are affected.   According to Status.tweetmeme.com, a hardware problem has caused the outage and the system would be up and running by 11.20 BST.   Tweetmeme is one of the largest Twitter service which aggregates all the popular links on Twitter to determine which links are popular. TweetMeme categorises these links into Categories, Subcategories and Channels, making it easy to filter out the noise to [...]

newsrooms

Journalists, both citizen and professional, have employed Twitter as a valuable tool for collecting and sharing stories. Now the microblogging site has released a guide that shows reporters how to best use the tool in their daily travails.   The guide, titled “Twitter for Newsrooms,” offers tips and tricks on how to leverage 140 characters for reporting the news, which will likely appeal mostly to social media noobs, also discusses engagement, including advice on branding and tweeting effectively.   Facebook recently undertook a similar initiative, launching a Page for journalists on Facebook, intended to be a resource for journalists who want [...]

Great news for twitterholics! Twitter seem to have finally rolled out an automatic link shortening feature on Tuesday that enables users to paste long URLs directly into messages sent through its microblogging website, without worrying that the message will exceed the service’s 140-character limit.   The users were forced to open a third party application to shorten the URL, but no more. The new service is inbuilt in twitter, so users can simply paste a link into the Tweet box on Twitter.com and the URL will automatically shorten, according to company blog post. Now no more going to bit.ly or tinyurl, [...]

Skype has finally sorted the issues, which caused latest outage of the service we reported earlier. We are following up with Skype to get fresh updates on this worldwide service disruption.   According to latest tweet from Skype, “Today’s problems have stabilised, and recovery is ongoing. Skype should return to normal soon.” I am able to login to Skype today and its working like normal.   Skype have not yet disclosed the reason behind this and it will be very interesting to see who takes responsibility of the loss caused by outage.   Skype is recently been acquired by [...]

I started my computer in the morning and opened usual applications I need for work. Everyday, my Skype automatically starts with windows and logs me in silently just like most of the Skype users. It took a while to notice that blue icon of Skype on taskbar is still gray and trying to connect to server. As I could browse the internet, it wasn’t my internet connection issue.   I checked on Twitter and ask friends which confirmed another Skype outage. Last outage we saw on Skype was around two days. Skype posted following tweet confirming that some users may [...]

Twitter for Mac, which launched earlier this year with the rollout of Apple’s Mac App Store, is getting its first major update today.   Besides a design update, you can now see multiple timelines at once and open more than one window in the client. You can click back to previous pages from the client and there is now a separate

Twitter is growing fast and now sees an average of 155 million messages posted to the network each day, the company said today. That’s up more than 3X from the company’s report of 50 million daily messages just one year ago.   155 million Tweets per day, each with at least 40 different fields of data associated with them, means there are 6.2 billion data points in play for developers of software and services to slice, dice & build on top of. Every day. “I think we should expect continuous acceleration for years to come,
